Sometimes, simplicity steals the show. This mousse combines Nutella's rich, chocolate-hazelnut flavor with the creamy tang of ricotta cheese, finished with the crunch of chocolate cookie crumbles. It's decadent, satisfying, and so effortless that even the busiest of us can find time to make it.

What makes this recipe stand out is its versatility. Whether you're hosting a dinner party, looking for a quick family treat, or just indulging in some "me time," this dessert fits every occasion. Plus, the balance of creaminess and crunch creates an irresistible texture, while the ricotta lends a slightly lighter feel compared to traditional mousse recipes heavy with cream or butter.

🧾 Ingredients

You only need 3 main ingredients to make this easy Nutella dessert:

  • Nutella: The star ingredient! Nutella brings its iconic chocolate-hazelnut goodness to the mousse, adding sweetness and a silky texture. Stick to the classic Nutella brand for authentic flavor, but any high-quality chocolate-hazelnut spread will work in a pinch. Check out also these 15 Quick and Easy Nutella Desserts.
  • Ricotta Cheese: Ricotta adds a creamy, slightly tangy base that balances the sweetness of Nutella. It also gives the mousse a smooth, airy texture. Use whole-milk ricotta for the creamiest results. Avoid low-fat or grainy ricotta, as they may compromise the texture. Check out also these 15 Ricotta Dessert Recipes.
  • Chocolate Cookie Crumbles: These add a delightful crunch to your mousse, creating a textural contrast that elevates each spoonful. Choose your favorite chocolate cookies-Oreo-style cookies work wonderfully. For a more sophisticated flavor, try crumbled biscotti or chocolate shortbread.

See the recipe card for quantities.

🥣 Variations

This mousse is a blank canvas for creativity. Here are some variations to keep things exciting:

  1. Fruit-Topped Mousse: Add fresh berries like strawberries or raspberries on top for a burst of freshness.
  2. Espresso Kick: Mix a teaspoon of instant espresso powder into the Nutella for a mocha-inspired mousse.
  3. Nutty Delight: Fold in chopped toasted hazelnuts or almonds for added crunch.
  4. Citrus Twist: Add a pinch of orange zest for a sophisticated citrus-chocolate flavor. You can use a dark chocolate spread instead of Nutella for a better contrast.
  5. Layered Parfait: Create layers of mousse, cookie crumbles, and whipped cream in a glass for an elegant presentation.

🍽 Serving Suggestions

This Nutella Ricotta Mousse shines in its versatility. Serve it in small glass jars, dessert cups, or even wine glasses for an upscale touch. Garnish with a sprinkle of cookie crumbs, a drizzle of melted Nutella, or a dollop of whipped cream. For a festive look, top with chocolate shavings or fresh mint leaves. Pair with coffee or dessert wine to round out the experience.

❄️ Storage

Refrigerator: Nutella Ricotta Mousse keeps well in the fridge for up to three days. Store it in an airtight container or cover your serving dishes with plastic wrap to prevent the mousse from drying out. Before serving, give it a quick stir to restore its creamy texture if needed.
