🍳 Substitutions

  • No figs? Use fig jam or roasted grapes instead.
  • No ricotta? Mascarpone, goat cheese, or cream cheese work too.
  • Vegan version - Use a plant-based ricotta and maple syrup instead of honey.

🥣 Variations

Looking to mix things up? This toast is super versatile. Try one of these tasty twists:

  • Fig Jam & Walnuts - Use fig jam instead of fresh figs and top with chopped toasted walnuts for a cozy, spreadable version.
  • Prosciutto & Fig - Add a thin slice of prosciutto over the ricotta before adding the figs. The salty-sweet combo is amazing.
  • Balsamic Glaze - Drizzle aged balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze over the top for a tangy finish.
  • Pistachio Crunch - Sprinkle crushed pistachios or almonds on top for added texture and a nutty twist.
  • Herbed Ricotta - Mix a little chopped thyme, rosemary, or basil into the ricotta before whipping for a savory spin.
  • Cinnamon & Maple - Skip the honey and figs, and top with a drizzle of maple syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon for a warm, autumn version.

🍽 Serving Suggestions

This toast is perfect for:

  • A light lunch or snack
  • A sweet-savory brunch item
  • A beautiful appetizer at a dinner party
  • A quick bite with your afternoon coffee or tea

Pair it with a salad for a full meal or serve it on a platter with other crostini for entertaining.

❄️ Storage & Reheating

Best eaten fresh. You can make the whipped ricotta ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Toast the bread and assemble just before serving for the best texture.

💭 Recipe FAQs

Do I need to peel the figs?

Nope! Just wash and slice them-they're totally edible.

Can I make this ahead?

You can prep the ricotta and toast the bread in advance, but it's best to assemble the toast right before serving.

Can I make this gluten-free?

Yes, just use your favorite gluten-free bread.

⭐ Top tip

Let the ricotta sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before whipping. It blends more easily and becomes extra creamy!
